Great Recipes
, 2008-07-02
This book is a great addition to your kitchen cookbook collection. When I am completely bored with the usual 4 dishes for my family, I've consulted Raman Prasad's new cookbook to add spice to the evening meal. My kids love it, and the dishes are easy and fun to prepare. It has even inspired our youngest to put on the apron and join in cooking. Thanks for keeping us all more healthy with delicious new recipes!

A fantastic achievement

Fortunately, I do not have medical problems that require the specific carbohydrate diet, but friends and family members do. Instead of struggling over what to serve I feel like I can chose anything from this book and have it be a success. The recipes are simple, elegant, and delicious. I love the ease of this book and recommend it to anyone.

Wonderful book for food fanatics!
, 2008-06-25
As a food fanatic always looking for new ideas, I very much enjoyed the idea of healthy eating that this book espouses. I do not have any dietary problems, but ran across this book while researching how to eat well for friends with sensitive tummies. This book is perfect, providing an idea of a healthy diet for many types of food sensitivities. The recipes are easy, no-frills and full of great ideas for the kind of balanced, protein and veggie-rich healthy eating prescribed by food enthusiasts such as Michael Pollan. Moreover, with all the research coming out about wheat sensitivities and gluten allergies, this book seems timely, relevant, and accessible to veteran and new cooks of all types. I especially enjoyed the vibrant photos, wonderful anecdotes about Raman's family, and easy-to-deliver recipes. The full range of courses were also helpful. I loved the appetizers and dessert sections in particular. Innovative ideas of uses of almond flour also helped immensely. I made and enjoyed most the recipes in this book, and would definitely subscribe to this diet as a healthy, wheat/gluten-free alternative to traditional carb-rich American fare. I would love to see more books like this on the market!

Great for anyone interested in healthy eating

I acquired a copy of 'Recipes for the Specific Carbohydrate Diet' a couple of months ago and had a great time reading through Prasad's intimate and often funny stories about the various dishes. I was intrigued by the instructions for making one's own yogurt (something that I enjoy every morning). I would love to be able to make my own yogurt from ingredients I knew to be natural, local and organic. I do not follow the SCD diet or have any kind of dietary restrictions but my partner avoids gluten and dairy. Many of the recipes in Prasad's SCD cookbook offer interesting gluten-free alternatives to things like bread and desserts - food groups we usually end up missing out on all together. What I really liked about the collection of recipes was the emphasis on natural ingredients, the culturally diverse assortment of dishes, and Prasad's personal anecdotes accompanying various recipes. The photography is beautiful, and the recipes are well laid out and easy to follow!

Tasty, easy recipes with an international flair
, 2008-06-24
This is a really great cookbook that I end up using over and over again because the recipes are simple but really tasty. There are no complicated ingredients (i.e. trips to specialty stores) which can be hard to fit into a busy work schedule. Some of the real winners for a simple dinner are the 'Sage Chicken with Portobello Mushrooms' and 'Moms Stuffed Chicken' (my comfort food!). At dinner parties to 'Grilled Asparagus with Tangy dip' and 'Sue's Stuffed Mushrooms' have been real hit. Especially the tangy dip - people just love the walnut flavor. This book is really a must have for your kitchen!
